Emergencies & Appliance Issues
- If you’re concerned you may have broken your brace in between your scheduled appointments please call us first to explain what has happened. The more information you can give, the better advice we can provide and possibly avoid an extra visit.
- Please do not turn up to the practice without notice as we will not be able to see you please call / email so we can assist you.
- If we do need to see you we have a limited number of emergency appointments per day on a first come first served basis. This will be a “sit and wait” appointment at the start of the day.
- Please note, you will not be able to book an emergency slot at a time of your choosing.
- The wearing of appliances will be trouble free if you follow the advice of your orthodontist, especially the types of food eaten which can damage braces.
Daily Cleaning
- Orthodontics requires a high level of ‘oral hygiene’ to help your treatment be successful.
- It’s important to brush your teeth and gums at least twice a day and if possible after lunch. Poor brushing may lead to permanent white marks on your teeth as a result of decalcification. We may remove your braces if brushing is poor to minimise further risk. Instructions on the correct brushes to use and brushing techniques will be discussed with you when we fit your braces.
- We also sell Orthodontic Starter packs to help you stay on track with your oral hygiene – ask at reception.
Tooth Whitening
- We offer tooth clinical strength whitening as an additional service
- We recommend you do this at the end of your treatment.
- The product can be purchased under prescription and used at home.
- Whitening can be requested at the start of a treatment plan and included in your overall treatment fee with the cost spread out over the 12 months interest free plan.
Regular Dental Care
- Your regular checkups should still be kept with your general dentist throughout treatment as they will check your general dental health.
- Orthodontics requires a high level of ‘oral hygiene’ to help your treatment be successful and we’ll give you recommendations to help.
Orthodontic Therapists
- We are delighted to have Orthodontic Therapists working within our team (under prescription) enabling you to be seen by more than just one member of staff.
- During your treatment you will only be treated by people who are specifically qualified in orthodontics using a specific prescription of your treatment set by our Specialist Orthodontist.
- Orthodontic Therapists are governed by strict GDC guidelines, to which we adhere, and have had intense orthodontic training to be able to work in our team.
- Your treatment remains the sole responsibility of our Specialist Orthodontist at all times and you will typically be seen every other visit by the specialist.
Retainers
- At the end of your treatment you will receive retainers to keep your teeth in their finished position.
- We’ll advise the initial length of wear for you as an individual, generally this is 6 weeks full time wear then bedtime wear for the rest of your life, if you wish your teeth to stay in the same place as your finished position.
- We’ll provide you with care instructions – however, the retainers will need to be replaced regularly, depending on how you’ve cared for them. We partner with Retainers for Life www.retainers4life.co.uk to offer you the quickest and easiest solutions for replacement.
